For they SAY and DO NOT DO!

To continue our work of warning the innocent or unknowing we have more information about Mike Peters and his group practices. Some of the following was posted on FACTNet today...

For they SAY and DO NOT DO!

Yes, I have read some of Mike Peters writings. Both now and many years ago. Let me offer this thought. If someone says many things just right, does this qualify them to do these things just right? Let's examine what Jesus said about it...

Mt 23:1-5
Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. "Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. "But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments."

Insight from the BB commentary:

Warning Against High Talk, Low Walk

"In the opening verses of this chapter, the Savior warns the crowds and His disciples against the scribes and the Pharisees. These leaders sat in Moses' seat, or taught the Law of Moses. Generally, their teachings were dependable, but their practice was not. Their creed was better than their conduct. It was a case of high talk and low walk. So Jesus said, "... whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do."
They made heavy demands (probably extreme interpretations of the letter of the law) on the people, but would not assist anyone in lifting these intolerable loads."

I believe there are a number of discrepancies in the books of Mike Peters or his leaders. But even what you see that appears to be "inspiring" or "NT accurate" does not go well with their conduct.

Judge for yourself from the real-life testimonies (on the FACTNet thread) of individuals and families if Mike Peters and his leading teachers actually do what they say. Read his books. They can seem(to a degree) to draw you into a mind set that everything is wrong in the church "out there", but that they do it just as the NT describes in their group. So what if he knows some of what the NT says it should be like. Does he DO what it says? In the previous post we made a good point about what they actually DO with the command from Christ Himself (repeated more than once by Paul) regarding our parents that God gave to us.

And what of the practice of being divisive in families if one spouse does not accept Mike's doctrine and practice as true or right? You can see the testimony regarding a wife withholding affection to her husband in the FACTNet thread. I happen to recall a situation in the Peters group with a man who was a pharmacist for Lilly in Indy. He was almost torn apart (near divorce) from his wife because she did not accept Mike's ways and refused to take part. I and some of my friends from Indianapolis ministered to this couple (after my freedom) for some time until he broke free from the deception and was back with his wife and children. You see, though I was only in the group for a few weeks (Thank God!), I happened to remain within a few blocks of the Peters group on N Michigan Rd for some years and knew a few things that continued to happen in the Peters group. I worked with the relatives of the founders of Families Against Cults for nearly 5 years.

Is this tearing apart families the dividing "sword" that Jesus spoke of, or is this a work of the flesh as Paul spoke of in Titus 1:10...?

"For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain."

Please consider what I have seen here:

1) Mike has himself accountable to no one and is therefore "insubordinate".

2) Another word for "deceiver" is "seducer"?
Some are seduced by Mikes writings and smooth talk.

3) Another word for "circumcision" could be "Pharisee" (or the like)?

4) Do you hear that our Lord thru Paul commands us that their "mouths must be stopped"? It is quite true (as I've said here before) Mike and his other leaders "railings" at me, tell me how blessed I am and these assaults are not the reason for these words I share here. But rather, this command means that even if I am "accused" of doing this out of "mere emotion" I must do it anyway to deter the innocent from harm and warn the fool hearted (as I once was). Paul was very emphatic in his use of words for this command.

5) "who subvert whole households" if you study this you will know this is speaking of families who are being overthrown or "undermined in their allegiance" in that family. If Mike can convince a spouse that the person they are supposed to be "one" with is not following Christ (as Mike thinks he sees it), he keeps a foothold on that family. Thereby undermining the wife's God-ordained allegiance to her husband. Mt 19:6 "So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate." This is another clear violation of which Peters follows in the tracks of the Pharisees for the sake of his NT doctrine. Just read the context and study for yourself. Also consider 2Tim 3:1-9

6) "dishonest gain" If you look at the meaning for "gain" it does not refer to money only but rather "advantage" . I truly believe Mike works a dishonest advantage in families because he is void of the faith and Spirit which draws men to Christ and instead must rely on legalism to supplement where God will not move for him. Because he must continue to "appear" to have authority from God according to the NT, he will manipulate through a form of mind control and emotional pressure. This is all that he has. There is NO power from God. He denies this power and replaces it with a "form of godliness". This form of godliness is well described in his books regarding NT patterns.

Please understand, everyone. I do not wish to give the impression that I have the corner on discerning all that happens in the group in Indy or it's affiliates with Mike Peters. I do have strong convictions and believe that the things I'm saying in these posts are true and accurate. All of us simply need to study all of the facts both in the "writings and conduct" of Mike and his following and consider honestly thru prayer and the whole counsel of God's Word what is true. I am not someone in a position of leadership in the church and I do not know it all. But what becomes so very evident to me after prayer and study of the Scriptures and the witnesses of their behavior, I wish to share with others in the hopes that the wrong doers will be rebuked and the innocent will be edified, strengthened and encouraged to be FREED from spiritual fraud and tyranny.

Again, if anyone wishes to make comments on anything I say here please feel free to "tell it all".

To the people who are beginning to see the errors of The Church of Indianapolis led by Mike Peters, please, let's pray for God to continue to reveal the truth to keep others from the snare set for them by Mike's seductive teachings. This doctrine is enticing because of certain failings of the church of today.

I so appreciate your making this available. My family has been suffering for over 2 years, silently. Until I read the FactNet forum, I couldn't see fully. Now I do and it is wonderfully freeing. We are FREEEEEEEE ! In Him ! Oh, to walk that out moment by moment.

I especially appreciate your sharing how it is (and you did it scripturally) possible for men to write things that seem soooo "right" and yet to be so far away (totally off) in spirit and in truth. That's been confusing to many. I was seduced. I have had to get with God on how it was possible for me to be susceptible . . . .. perhaps some of you know what I mean. Sorting this out is painful and ongoing.

And I think I do understand where you are coming from Denny. More than you know.
